Following the presentation of my workshop on attention filters at the Agile Tour Aix Marseille 2017, I thought I could make some changes to it. Indeed, how to make the experience of the participants more learning on a subject that is both simple and complex like theEnneagram ?
It is with this objective in mind that I undertook this redesign and after a few iterations, I present to you the second version of my Enneagram discovery workshop!
Good reading ! 😉
An unchanged pitch
This version 2 had no particular impact on the way I approach the subject. We always talk about attention filters, their impact on our personality structure and therefore on our automatisms.
In effect :
What we pay attention to is the reflection of our way of thinking, of reflecting,
to behave and therefore to communicate
The objective therefore remains the same: to reconstruct the structure of a personality from its attention filter.
A reworked introduction
I had realized on several occasions that the workshop had difficulty getting started: the participants did not immediately understand what they had to do.
The main difficulty seemed to come from the fact that the explanation was oral only. Even if it could make sense at the time, it was when each group got its fifteen cards during the first round that everything stopped!
So I decided 3 things:
- Redesign the maps games to make them more pleasing to the eye: to allow participants to find their way around more easily.
- Lay out the cards of the first round on the tables upstream: to allow the participants to be able to project themselves on the exercise during the round of instructions.
- Create a medium to help understand the rules of the game: to allow participants to visualize the objective to be achieved.
My intention being:
the creation of a security framework to allow autonomy of action with a user focus
Does it remind you of things? 😉
Simpler and more colorful content
The design of the cards has mainly been redesigned for the structural characteristics of the personality. Moreover, the latter have evolved somewhat.
Because I focus my attention on certain elements:
- …I have some values who drive my life – one in this workshop
- … I avoid at all costs some things because they don't fit my values
- … I have a tendency main one that I display under stress (in automatic mode)
- … I have one communication style preponderant with which I share my vision of the world
- … Iirritates others too much focus on what's important to me
- … I am irritated by others for certain reasons, usually through behaviors in opposition to my values
A starter kit
Upon arriving at the table, participants will find:
- The first set of attention filters under review
- Grouping cards by characteristics
- The grouping of cards of thoughts or frequent words
The objective is simply to obtain this result:
A more suitable mechanism
As a reminder, in the previous version of the workshop, the participants were divided into 3 groups: each with a set of 3 different attention filters on which they rotated successively.
This mechanical V1 caused a few problems:
- The participants went through 2 major game phases: an active one (at the heart of the workshop) then a more passive one (debriefing). This second phase could appear long – even if necessary – because you have to go through the 9 attention filters.
- It is difficult to maintain the participants' attention during the debriefing phase after having had to be in action throughout the first phase: and yes, it is tiring!
- The amount of information to ingest at once is enormous!
Here we find a heavy sequential mode with a single feedback loop at the end! 🙁
That's why I adapted this one mechanical V2 as follows :
- Each group of participants studies the same set of 3 attention filters at the same time
- We debrief together each set of 3 filters
- I quickly present the model to close the session
We then obtain 3 short cycles with recurring feedback loops and it works better! 😛

Conclusion
This new version of the workshop seems, in my opinion, to be a more pleasant experience for the participants.
The main idea remains the same: to share the Enneagram as an incredible tool of compassion allowing us to know ourselves better, better understand others and make our interactions more fulfilling!
Thank you to all the people I met for their good humor and for playing the game of discovering yourself and those around you!
This obviously does not prevent a large number of questions at the end of the session! Now, wouldn't that be a sign that the workshop arouses curiosity? 😉
