PDP Module 1 Overview

The Personal Development Program (PDP) started last week, Monday April 16, 2018, with its first module: the basics of the Enneagram. 18 people out of the 20 planned were present and ready to embark on this new adventure.

I will describe in this article the intentions of this first module and give you an overview of what we have done with the participants! 😉

Good reading !

Setting up the frame

As the very first thing, the important thing was to start in good conditions: to put in place the security framework allowing the emergence, that is to say to clarify the objective and the constraints.

General rules

This first module was an opportunity to remind all participants of the operating rules of the PDP:

  • Opening : as the 5th Toltec Agreement says – “Be skeptical, but learn to listen”.
  • Kindness : let's not fall into judgment, let's learn to welcome the difference.
  • Privacy : whatever happens at the PDP, stays at the PDP.

Rules of ethics

Working with a personality model like the Enneagram, we wanted to specify the following rules of ethics and use:

  • Before anything else, know yourself.
  • Assume that the problem is with you: if someone triggers a negative reaction in you, try to understand it by examining your own type.
  • Don't reveal their type to others, but if they want to, help them find out.
  • To understand is not to justify: when you have identified your mechanisms, do not impose them on others.

Intents of module 1

This first module aims to present the structure of a personality and the 9 major profiles of the Enneagram.

You might think that the objective of the participants would be to identify their profile, you wouldn't be entirely wrong, but that's incorrect.

Indeed, identifying your profile is not an end in itself but a means like any other to take a step back on yourself and determine the development path that best suits you. This can also take some time: we can doubt, hesitate, or even make a mistake and it does not matter! Only self-observation will allow us to better understand our reactions in order to make choices more suited to the situations we encounter every day.

In the Enneagram, we often say:

Identify its type is not to lock oneself in a box,

but rather to raise awareness of the box in which life has locked us up in order to be able to free ourselves from it.

As you will have understood, the first test of the participants will be above all to accept a darker facet of their personality as much as all of their potentialities! 🙂

And after ?

While waiting for the next module – scheduled for May 17, 2018 – each participant's mission is to observe their mechanisms through this new reading grid. This will allow him not only to affirm or invalidate his belonging to a profile but also to experience another angle of interaction with others.

Each of the participants will also have the opportunity to have an individual session in order to clarify certain notions, discuss their observations and potentially obtain new perspectives.
