MAJ Scrum Guide 2016: a first translation

ScrumValues

A new version of the Scrum Guide was presented this week by the 2 daddies of Scrum, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, during a one-hour webinar. The modification is based on the addition of a paragraph on the values of Scrum which are: the courage, there focus, I'commitment, THE respect and theopening. The French translation is not yet available, I offer you one in advance! 🙂

Scrum values

As the values of Commitment, Courage, Focus, Openness, and Respect are embodied and lived by the Scrum Team, the Scrum Pillars of Transparency, Inspection, and Adaptation come to life and instill trust for everyone. . Scrum team members learn and explore these values when working with Scrum events, roles, and artifacts.

Successful use of Scrum depends on people being able to better live these five values. Individuals are personally committed to achieving the goals of the Scrum team. Scrum team members have the courage to do the right thing and work through the tough problems. Everyone is focused on the work of the Sprint and the goals of the Scrum team. The Scrum team and its stakeholders agree to be open to all the work to be done and its challenges. Members of the Scrum team respect each other as competent and independent people.

To finish

It is interesting to see this momentum for values (cf. Kanban values) to give a different color to the principles and practices defined in a methodological approach. In the case of Scrum, these values are not new and already appeared here on the Scrum Alliance site for some time. However, given the numerous implementation deviations and the difficulties that the teams could encounter, this contribution seems entirely appropriate to me. In any case, I hope that the formalization of the values of Scrum will make it possible to give more meaning to the implementations and the use of the various practices mentioned in the Scrum Guide! 🙂
